A native of South Africa, Grace Phillips exhibited an early talent for drawing and painting.
After studying commercial design at Johannesburg School of Art, the artist attended the
University of Witwaterstand South Africa majoring in Fine Art. Her interest in the decorative
qualities of penmanship led to her studies with noted English calligrapher Mary Duxbury.
Phillips' signature style combines her love of nature and rich knowledge of plant life
with her extraordinary talent as artist and calligrapher. The artist's finely detailed watercolor
renderings of plants and herbs are embellished with engaging text that she has meticulously
researched.
Phillips currently lives and works in San Diego where her paintings have been featured
in numerous exhibitions. Throughout her career, Phillips has been awarded many prestigious
commissions and recently, her versatile designs have been adapted to fabric for home
furnishings.
